Random 5 Friday

One of the post cards I made for this upcoming post card swap (there's still time to sign up)
Welcome Spring!

Welcome to Random 5 Friday --
where you share 5 random facts about you, your day,  your pets, your kids, whatever!

The Random 5 Friday Meme post will be available at 12:00 am every Friday.
I'm looking forward to seeing your submissions.

Random 5 Friday

Guidelines:

1. Link up a blog post with 5 random facts
about you, your day, your pets, your kids, whatever!
2. Posts not containing 5 random facts may be deleted
(sorry, but I don't ask much!)
3. Visit a few other participants if you are able.

: : :

Here are mine for this week:

1. The Walmart tulips I bought last week were a tad bit disappointing.
They opened and dropped petals within two days of purchase.

2. If someone says your photo is "interesting," it means they don't like it.
But that's okay.
Not really. You hurt my feelings.
Snort.

3. Was mildly upset that I missed a call from my Navy son last week.
My phone rings twice before going to voice mail
and there's no way I can navigate 3 cats and 2 dogs to get to it in time.

4. Our satellite tv went out this week, so we delved into the DVD's for
a couple of days until the satellite could be fixed.
The DVD player didn't work either - picture kept breaking up.
I said it was an omen to pull the plug and go Amish.

5. I would like to invite you to visit Joey's blog --
she quit blogging a few years ago but has recently started up again
and could use some love from this awesome community.

Won't you drop by and leave her a comment or better yet, follow her?
Thank you!

Now it's your turn:

When my son calls the answering machine usually gets it first but my son says he knows exactly when I'll pick up. He even had to tell my Grandson one recent day just wait Grandma will pick up. Yep, I'm not as quick as I once was. :)
I grew up with three channels on the TV and you had to get up and go to the TV to change them. I'd like to think I could do without satellite but when it's down it's AWFUL. lol
Heading over to Joey's to check it out. Have a great weekend Nancy!

Claire said...

Sorry you missed your son's call... can you amend the phone settings so it rings longer? I need at least 6 rings to get to the phone!
Will visit your friend's blog later:)
And I hope the week gets better - have a good weekend xx

Claire said...

Darn, she's on google+ and I have no desire to join....
Can you tell her I visited, and that broccoli and cheese soup looks scrummy??

Going Amish? You??? Hahahahaha! I don't think Amish use computers, do they?

HOOTIN ANNI said...

Going Amish....now that may be a bit difficult. We'd miss you when y'all pulled the plug on your phone, your TV, your DVD player....and here's my point...your COMPUTER. As for missing your son's phone call, can you change your settings to have your phone ring more than twice before going to voice mail? I have mine set at 5 rings.

Sarah Huizenga said...

I use to be able to live without T.V. quite nicely, then I got hooked on a couple of shows and now I hate to miss them. Otherwise I would be just as happy reading a book.

Anne Payne said...

Yes, let's go Amish! I'm sorry you missed your son's phone call. I know that was disappointing. I like the spring picture. I just wish it were true! We have ice today...ugh!!! Hopped over to Joey's and I'm following a PInterest board she has, and also through BlogLovin. I don't do Google+.

Buttons said...

Oh Nancy I am so sorry you missed your son's call. I am sure you will get another one. HUG
Amish yes I can see it.
It sounds like you have had quite the week with electronics.
Walmart tulips drat.
"Interesting" pic you have there:) actually I LOVE it. Hug B

EG CameraGirl said...

I'm not sure "interesting" means someone doesn't like your photo. They just might know what else to say at the moment for whatever reason, which may have nothing to do with your photo. "Nice capture" is the one that hurts my feelings if nothing else is written along with it.

Karen @ away for the weekend said...

Interesting = dislike? Hmmmm - maybe, I'm not sure. I'm really sorry you missed your son's call - I can just imagine how upset I'd feel! You made me laugh thinking about your Amish lifestyle - but sometimes that does seem like it would be a positive change. Have a nice weekend!

Icy BC said...

Sorry that you missed your son's call, Nancy. Hopefully he will get another chance to call you soon.
Oh what will it be like if we go Amish? No more annoying realities shows would be a great start for the nation :-)

A Quiet Corner said...

While the dropping flowers and your satellite are disappointing, missing your son's call was really sad. Going Amish would mean no blogging???? We don't want that to happen!...:)JP

Brandi said...

Bummer missing your son! Watch any good movies? I finally watched Silver Linings Playbook. Really liked it. Interesting doesn't have to mean bad...your photographs are awesome! Have a great weekend!

Lynne said...

I can't imagine someone not liking your photos. Missing the phone call from your son, not fun at all.
I'd take the tulip stems back and ask for new . . .

Snap said...

I love your optimism that Spring is coming! I had the same problem with the iris I bought this year. However, they looked great for a day or two -- just long enough to get some photos. Sorry your missed your son's call. I think the only good about a TV is background noise. Now that baseball season has started, I watch! Off to visit with Joey. Thanks for hosting! ox

Sandra Morris said...

I hope the tulips from Walmart are not an omen about Spring! I am hoping for a nice long one!
Have a great weekend!

Lisa @ Two Bears Farm said...

Oh no! I say photos are interesting all the time! I never realized it was an insult. I need to find a new word! :-)

Pamela Gordon said...

I think your post card is beautiful - love the daisies and the girl on the bicycle. I bought pretty pink and white tulips from the grocers yesterday. I hope they last longer than 2 days!! That would be disappointing and I think I'd return them, petals and all. Enjoy the weekend.

rayfamily said...

I'm sorry you missed the call from your son. I hate it when the phone decides to go quickly to vm. Maybe it was just your batch, I got some tulips last weekend and they're just starting to fade..spring is coming! (*says over and over as a mantra ;)

Robyn Goddard said...

My Husband would say "that's interesting" is a Nebraska term thing. Bummer about the tulips and missed phone call. Hopefully spring is just around the corner and you will have lots of green and buds to photograph.

Have a wonderful weekend, Nancy.

Kathy McB said...

Hope you get to see him soon - the post card is awesome!!

Maggid said...

Good Morning! I continue to hope we'll see flowers blooming soon . . . winter . . ach, this one has been l-o-n-g.
Are you able to set your phone for an extra ring???
I visited Joey's Blog . . thank you -
love & love,

Enjoyed reading your random 5 Nancy and so sorry that you missed the call from your son! Gotta fix that phone to ring longer. I really enjoy your meme here, and always enjoy reading everyones thoughts. Hugs to you and hope your weekend is awesome. This is a great way to start it.

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

I just knew someone would go there -- lol! :)

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

I may have been hormonal when I stated my opinion on the "interesting" thing. Yes, I play the hormone card!

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

Meh -- prolly just me that finds that word annoying. I take it back! :)

Kelly Kardos said...

Yeah...but I KNEW it would be Kathy!! (snort) xoxo to you both!

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

There's got to be a propane-generated computer out there somewheres.

Pix Under the Oaks said...

Sorry you missed your Son's call Nancy! I could live without TV.. no problem. SomeBODY else in the house could not.. :) I will be clicking on Joey's link after breakfast!

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

Only way to fix the ringer on Android is by calling Verizon to have them do it -- I avoid that at all costs! There's got to be another way!

Kelly Kardos said...

My fingers are crossed that I get one of your post cards! oh my...You know how I feel about ANYTHING French! (swoon) Go change your ringer....right now...I'll wait! You can only go partly Amish otherwise I'd have to come visit you on your farm! When I use the word 'interesting" It's more that I'm trying to understand a person's viewpoint. But...If possible I'll always ask to help me understand~maybe it's cause i'm slow sometimes! Loved your post this morning Nancy. It's a good way to start the day!

Out on the prairie said...

change that machine. I get the potted tulips and they make it a few days longer

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

My "machine" days are long gone unfortunately. Potted tulips huh? :)

Patti G said...

"let's go amish" ----- snort!
I hope I'm not the one to have ever said "interesting" about any of your photography??? I love your work - truly, completely, always!
oh.....I signed up for the postcard swap - thanks for the link.

Deb @ Frugal Little Bungalow said...

Sorry you missed that call.

The trouble with being amish is those long dresses in the summer. Sweaty! :)

Lisa said...

Well, I find your shot a very welcome invitation to spring…as well as being *interesting*! Hmmmm, not sure I see you as Amish, but then again you do get up and bake so….maybe more Mennonite? :-) Hope your Navy son can call again very soon. xo

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

Ach! Sometimes my humor does not translate well. I'm looking forward to the link up. xo

Karen said...

Oh, I like your postcard! I get my tulips from the grocery store, in pots, they last quite a long time. I find lots of photos interesting, it doesn't mean I don't like them. What hurts my feeling is when I visit and comment on a blog regularly, and that person never visits mine. I don't leave comments to get comments back, but it would be nice! Sorry you missed your son's call. I have portable phones in three locations in the house. I bought them in a set, only cost 45 dollars.

Laura~Pretty Pix said...

Enjoyed your Random Five.. they were "interesting"
Sorry, the devil made me...
Yup, that lovely word freaks me out too.
Have a great weekend, my friend!

Carolynn Anctil said...

These made me laugh - even the missed call. Sorry about that. At least you know he's safe and thinking about you. I once asked a professional photographer friend of mine if anyone he showed his portfolio to ever told him they didn't like his work. He told me they would say it was interesting. *grin* I'm going to go visit Joey now. Happy Friday!

I think I would set my phone for a longer ringtime, and maybe assign a special tone to your son, so that you know when he calls by the different ringtone. Everyone else you can ignore to voicemail if you want, that way.
Thanks for the tip to visit Joey's Blog. I will check it out.

TexWisGirl said...

hey, i think 'interesting' is still okay. it might not be my favorite style, but the fact that you put effort into it to create it is enough to 'interest' me and i'd acknowledge that. :)

and i like your post card - it is interesting AND creative. :)

Tanya Breese said...

your postcard is "interesting" haha, j/k...i love it! did you design it yourself? bummer on missing navy boys call :( how's amish life going so far? going to go check out your friend...have a great weekend :)

Joey Resciniti said...

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You've sent me visitors. I hope they don't notice all of the dust and cobwebs over at my place. :)

I bought my first bunch of tulips at the Meijer (it's like WalMart, but nicer, with great produce) - they lasted 4 days.
I bought a second bunch from the same store, and these have been very robust - they are looking great, even after 6 days.
I may join in on the postcard swap....
Have a great day and weekend!

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

Lori -- I added your link.

Michelle B said...

I find your postcard very interesting :) That is a good thing. It captured my attention and made me look close. I love it!

Gail Dixon said...

The postcard is beautiful!

We just recently cut our cable and now enjoy TV with a Roku and paper thin HD antenna to get the network stations. It works surprisingly well and saves us about $85/mo.

Faith Hope Cherrytea said...

enjoyed your randomness...;)

Stephanie said...

Nice job on the postcard. I'm doing the swap too and am really looking forward to receiving cards. My friend's husband described her artwork as an "acquired taste". I think that means he doesn't care for it.

Our Neck of the Woods said...

Oh no, I'm sorry you missed a call from your son! I hope you get to talk to him soon!

Debbie said...

oohhhhh nancy, i love that postcard!!

Inger said...

I'm sorry you missed the call from your son. We just changed our satellite TV to family plan, wanting to save some money, and/or spend money on watching more movies. And I was just going to say that your postcard is very interesting! Let me look up another word - engaging may be the best one of those I found. A very engaging postcard picture. You are so talented and it's great that you have the time, with all the rest you must have to do to take care of your farm, to be creative.

Nancy J said...

don't have much in the random department today, but hopped to your link for Joey, she is a beaut with her soup recipe, the freezer will give up some of that broccoli, and soup will be much relished. No TV, a good book to read, internet still OK, I would be happy all round. Cheers, Jean.

Terri @ Backward B Ranch said...

Oh I'm sorry you missed that call- can you change your voice mail settings? Maybe to four rings? I hope you get to talk to him soon.

Deanna said...

Oh suck, you missed a call from your son. And I know those must be really special moments for you. Surely you can change the amount of rings prior to voice mail. My daffodils from TJ's didn't last very long either.

S. J. Qualls said...

Hmm... #1. It figures.
#2. If I say it's interesting - it IS. If I say nothing at all - I either missed it or I don't care for the whatever.
Now I forget what else you talked about... TV I think... I don't watch it much.
Cute postcard BTW.
So very sorry that you missed your son's call. If I don't have my phone on my body - I miss them too. :(
I saw a yard full of blooming daffodils yesterday! There is hope!

Dianna said...

LOVED that postcard! Well, duh, my post published at 6:something this morning, and I forgot to link up to you til now! anyway, I'm heading over to visit Joey! Oh, and did you check to see if you can change the number of rings before your phone goes to voice mail?? Calls from sons are too important to miss!

Kim Stevens said...

Hmmm....interesting to me mean that you have captivated my attention with something, that I like it! And rats that you missed that call...mine is on 4 rings and sometimes that's still not enough time for me to get to it. And...I hope you will accept a belated Happy Birthday from me, I hope it was awesome like you!

Karen said...

I was just complaining about tulips I purchased with the same life span as yours. So disappointing, but not nearly as disappointing as you missing that phone call from your son! Your postcard is so pretty. Have a great weekend!

Barb said...

Hello dear Nancy - If I ever say a photo is "interesting" that's exactly what I mean - it would be a good thing. You need to change your # of rings - I could never make it in 2. We have no tv in Denver - we do a lot of reading.

Cheryl @ TFD said...

I'm sorry you missed your call from your son. Hope you get to talk to him soon. I love all your photos, Nancy, they are both beautiful and interesting! I don't think interesting is a bad thing at all. Love your post card. Happy Friday to you!

pattisjarrett said...

Love your postcard! Sorry your tulips didn't last longer. I wish flower arrangements could last a long time, it's sad to watch them diminish. And you missed a call from your son? That's a rough week! Off to check out Joey's blog. Thanks for the link.

Gail said...

I'm slow but I finally made it. Thanks for the opportunity.

Nita Davis said...

I remember how good it was to hear my son's voice when he was deployed and how hard it was for him to get a chance to phone home. I think I would have been more than mildly upset at the darn answering machine. I sure hope you are able to talk with your Navy son soon. Sounds like the electronics in your life need attitude adjustments. :D
May this coming week be much better.

eileeninmd said...

Sorry about the Walmart tulip and for you missing your son's call. I love your postcard, it is a nice feeling to welcome spring. Especially after this winter. I hope you are back to normal there, have a happy weekend!

Nicki said...

"snort" indeed - no, wait ... sometimes I actually do find something "interesting" - might want to rephrase that from now on. Bummers about the tulips - they can be that way regardless of where they came from and your postcard is reminiscent of some notes we came across from our grandparents.

Dotti said...

I didn't make it to the linkup today, crazy day here. But I love your postcard {no equivocating there!}. Great work!

aspiritofsimplicity said...

oops...I sometimes say a photo is interesting because I really do think it's interesting. I will have to stop doing that and think of another word. If I have ever commented interesting on one of your photos, rest assured I liked it and thought it really was interesting. ...

aspiritofsimplicity said...

oh yes. I meant to say I have bought 2 bouquets of tulips from 2 different places and they have both done the same thing as yours did.

Margie said...

Sad you missed your call from you son. The Joey's blog link didn't work for me. :(

Sugar Cookies to Peterbilts said...

The postcard is so lovely, your talent is amazing! I would be disappointed in those tulips too. Off to check out Joeys blog.

Leave It To Davis said...

Did your friend already quit blogging again? I tried to go and encourage them, but it said could not be found. Shucks! Sometimes, dvds are much better than tv anyway! Too bad you missed the call from your son.....hope you were able to call him back and talk to him!!!

abrianna said...

Pretty postcard!

I would have been upset about missing that call too.

LOL about interesting and going Amish :)

Ida said...

Your postcard is really pretty. I like the "nostalgic" feel it has.
I do hate it when flowers don't last longer then a day or two.
A bummer for sure about missing your son's call. Do set your machine for a longer pick-up time before the answering machine kicks on. That helps.
See if I say something is "interesting" I really mean that I find it interesting. I don't think of that as a negative word at all. If I don't comment on something it's probably more because it doesn't fit my interests that much. I always try though to find something "positive" to say whenever I comment on a blog post. I got a comment from someone the other day and when I visited their blog it was so, NOT my thing at all. I did thank them for their comment and told them that their blog while it wasn't my thing certainly was artistic in it's own way and that many would find it appealing for it's different style of art. I probably won't ever visit it again but I wanted them to know that I appreciated their work even if it wasn't my style. (Sorry for being long-winded there.)

Sharon said...

I love your postcard creation! Very pleasing and vintage-y. I'm sorry you missed a call from your son. Hope he tries again soon and you can connect. Have a wonderful weekend!

Randy said...

Wow, that is some piece of digital art you have there.

Barbara Shallue said...

No time to post a Random 5 this week, but I always enjoy yours! I hope you figure out a way to postpone your phone going to voice mail so you don't miss another call from your son!

J Bonafilla said...

Lovely postcard, Nancy, and congratulations on a great idea to build an 'interesting' (in a VERY good way - just to be clear) montage of windows into other people's lives. Loved your random 5 post! Have a fab weekend, Bonny @justsaying2u

Ann said...

Now I wonder how many times I've used the word interesting in the past and if I really meant "interesting" or if I was just trying to be nice and failing at it....lol
That would be frustrating missing the phone call and I know I would never get to my phone in two rings. I tried to visit your friend's blog but got an error message

I hate to miss a call from the kids and someday may end up flat on the floor as I trip over dog/boots/books trying to make it before voicemail clicks in.
What a pretty card you've put up - makes me believe Spring might just be around the corner.

Sorry you missed the call. Can you change the phone settings to get more rings before hitting voice mail?

I missed participating in Random 5 Friday. Hope I can this coming Friday! :-)

edenhills said...

I got flowers from Wal-Mart nearly a week and a half ago. Other than the roses, they are still looking good. Maybe they just don't have good tulips and roses. I think I'd be better off going without tv some days, but I only get the free channels now, so it wouldn't be a big loss.

Cathy H. said...

Beautiful postcard! I would love to do something like that, but I really don't need to add anything else to my plate!
